Kevin Barry is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach (CSCS), Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and current coach within the collegiate athletic department at Mount St. Mary’s University, located in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
A native of Waterford, Ireland, Kevin has been involved with soccer his entire life. Growing up, Kevin excelled as an athlete, playing for Waterford’s top soccer teams. He joined Waterford United in 2010 and participated in the Airtricity U20 National Legaue. Kevin was an Irish Schools International Trailist in 2009-10 and 2010-11, was named Waterford U16 player of the year, and captained his team to the U16 All-Ireland Final in 2010.
In 2011, Kevin decided to take his soccer career to America to play at the collegiate level for nationally ranked Mercyhurst University. Over his 4 years at Mercyhurst he helped the team to achieve two PSAC Championships (2013,2014),while also making the NCAA Tournament 2nd round (2011), NCAA Final 4 (2012), NCAA Elite 8 (2013), NCAA Tournament 3rd round (2014), and recording an overall record of 63-22-2. In 2012, Kevin played in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) for Erie Admirals. During his senior year Kevin was in charge of putting together a soccer strength, speed, and power training program for the team’s underclassmen. He also stayed active in coaching youth soccer around the area. Kevin graduated in 2015 with a BSc in Exercise Science.
After graduating, Kevin took his talents down to The University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he played his last season of soccer and obtained a Master’s Degree in Physical Education in December 2016. During his time in North Carolina he worked as a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for Pembroke’s athletic teams and also worked as a personal trainer in the campus gym. As a GA strength coach Kevin assisted with all of the athletic teams but spent the majority of his time working with men’s soccer, football, women’s golf and volleyball.
Kevin is now working as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Division 1 level for Mt. Saint Mary’s University in Maryland. He also works with a number of local soccer clubs in Frederick, MD as a strength, speed, and agility coach.
